JOANNE DRU
Warner Bros. consents for her use in a Lady Clairol ad campaign, in exchange for which the ads will plug her film Hell on Frisco Bay.
Contract signed: "Joanne Dru", 2 pages, 8½x11, also initialed "J. D." Burbank, California, 1955 December 14. On letterhead of Warner Bros. Pictures, Inc., Dru signs her consent to an agreement between Warner Bros., and Clairol, Inc. of New York, N. Y. The studio grants permission for the use of Dru's name and picture in commercials for Miss Clairol Hair Color Bath, in exchange for mention in the ads of Hell on Frisco Bay, starring Dru. The precise language of her endorsement of the product, and of the inserted plug for the movie, are stipulated in the contract. Also signed by a representative of Warner Bros., and of a law firm representing Clairol. Dru has initialed on page 1 a change in the duration of the contract from one year to six months. Joanne Dru (1922-1996), born Joanne Letitia LaCock, began her show business career as a showgirl in Al Jolson's Broadway play, Hold Onto Your Hats. She and her first husband (1941-1949), singer Dick Haymes, later moved to Hollywood, where Dru made her film debut in Abie's Irish Rose (1946). To avoid typecasting, Dru began appearing in a number of early TV anthology series (from 1951). She would also appear on the small screen in her own series, Guestward Ho (1960), and was a guest star on other programs, including Hollywood Squares (1967, 1969), hosted by her brother, entertainer Peter Marshall. In Hell on Frisco Bay, Dru played the female lead in a star-studded cast which included Alan Ladd and Edward G. Robinson. Light surface creases. Lightly toned. Corners lightly worn and creased. Small hole on top near 'Warner Brothers' logo. Staple in top left corner. Accompanied by JSA Authentication certificate (A13015) and JSA Authentication sticker affixed to lower right corner on page two. Otherwise, fine condition.
