JOANNE WOODWARD and ARMINA MARSHALL. Contract signed: "Joanne Woodward", 2p, 8½x11, front and verso. No place, 1955 November 14. Standard AFTRA Engagement Contract for a Single Television Appearance between The Theatre Guild and Woodward for her appearance as Rocky in White Gloves, airing December 21, 1955. Also signed: "Armina Marshall" as Producer for The Theatre Guild. Marshall has also initialed: "AM" on two typed riders affixed to verso. JOANNE WOODWARD, one of the most acclaimed film actresses of her era, is also highly visible as a television and theatrical performer, as well as a prominent social activist. Woodward received a Best Actress Academy Award in 1957 for her role in The Three Faces of Eve and again in 1969 for Rachel, Rachel. She also earned Best Actress honors at the 1972 Cannes Film Festival for The Effect of Gamma Rays on Man-in-the-Moon Marigolds. In addition to her wins, Woodward has also had several Oscar nominations and has been the recipient of numerous television Emmy Awards. ARMINA MARSHALL, who first appeared on the Broadway stage in 1924, became a prominent playwright and producer. The Theatre Guild, which she and husband Lawrence Langer founded in 1919, still flourishes, having produced 228 Broadway plays as of 2002. Marshall and Langer received a Tony for the stage version of Sunrise at Campobello in 1958 and a special Tony (1961) for organizing the first repertory group to tour the world for the U.S. State Department, at President Kennedy's behest. Lightly creased. Slightly soiled. Staples at lower right blank margin, staple holes at upper left corner, upper margin and lower left margin. Upper right blank corner chipped away. Overall, fine condition.
