The Cuban Consul writes an important letter to Ernesto Bavastro to
inform him about his election as a member of the Cuban Committee of Beneficence
due to the departure of Fuentes from Jamaica.
Autograph Letter Signed: "Joaquin de Miranda" in iron gall
ink. 10¾x8½. One page. Fully Translated in English: "Cuban Committee
of Beneficence. Kingston, June 25, 1874. Mr. Ernesto Bavastro, Dear Compatriot:
In an ordinary session of this Committee made on the 12 of the current month and
in accordance with the article 9 chapter 2 of its regulation approved in general
meeting of the 21 of the current month, the following agreement, among others,
was achieved. 'Mr. Duany said that Mr. Ernesto Bavastro accepted the position of
vocal of this Committee in replacement of Sr. Fuentes, who is permanent gone
from this island, so I inform you about it with the congratulations of the
Committee.' So, I have the pleasure to share it with you and I will send you the
correspondent diploma of your designation as soon as it is printed. At your
service, Joaquin de Miranda. Secretary." Joaquin de Miranda was a
Secretary of the Cuban Committee of Beneficence who also served as
Consul of Cuba. Signer merits for further research. Fragile. Multiple
mailing folds. Lightly toned, wrinkled and soiled. Edges lightly frayed. 1¾-inch
tear at middle fold. Otherwise, fine condition.
