JOCKO CONLAN
Baseball Hall of Fame Plaque postcard signed by the Hall of Fame umpire in black ink
Baseball Hall of Fame Plaque Postcard signed: "Jocko Conlan". Color, 3½x5½. His inscription reads: "Sunny disposition, accuracy and hustle earned him rating as a standout umpire and he won respect of players and managers with his fairness. Only arbiter to work in each of first four N.L. pennant playoffs. Chosen for six World Series and six All-Star games." When umpire Red Ormsby was overcome by the heat in a 1935 Chicago White Sox-St. Louis Browns game, he asked Chicago outfielder JOCKO CONLAN (1899-1989) to fill in. After the 1935 season, after 128 games in two years, batting .263 with no home runs, the 35-year-old turned to umpiring full time. The Baseball Hall of Famer umpired in the National League from 1941-1964 and was the last National League umpire to wear an outside chest protector. Fine condition.
