Photograph signed: "Jody Miller". B/w, 8x10 overall, image 6x8¾ (one surface). Name imprinted at bottom margin. Country singer Jody Miller, who had a number of hits in the 1960s and 1970s, is best known for her single, "Queen of the House", her humorous response to Roger Miller's "King of the Road". The song, which was a Grammy Award winner for Best Vocal Performance on a Country Record, resulted in Miller being nominated for Grammys for Best New Country & Western Artist and Best Vocal Performance, Female (she would later be nominated for Best Country Vocal Performance, Female for her 1971 hit, "He's So Fine"). Miller, who recorded her debut album in 1963, pioneered a fusion of folk, country and pop that was the forerunner of the "new" country of the 1970s. Her appearances on Tom Paxton's folk music television show and crossover hits such as "He Walks Like a Man" labeled her as more of a pop artist, but Miller returned to her country roots in the late 1970s, frequently scoring Top 10 hits. Her 1987 independently released album, My Country, consisted entirely of patriotic songs and attracted the attention of President-elect George H. Bush, who invited Miller to sing at his inaugural ball. Fine condition.
