JOE COLEMAN
Signed 5x4 color illustration on heavy card, shown pitching for the Philadelphia A's
Illustration signed: "Joe Coleman". Color, 4½x3¾ heavy card. Joe Coleman (1922-1997)
pitched 10 seasons in the American League through 1955, the first eight of those with the
Philadelphia A's. He went 14-13 with the 1948 A's, making the All-Star team, and 13-14
the following year. He won 13 games once more with the 1954 Baltimore Orioles. If his
lifetime record of 52 wins vs. 76 losses looks unimpressive, that is because he played for very
weak teams. His son, also named Joe Coleman, pitched in the Major Leagues from 1965 to
1979. Each was the youngest pitcher in the league when they first took the mound, father
Joe in 1942 and his son in 1965. Lower edge cut unevenly. Otherwise, fine condition.
