Photograph signed: "Joe Brown", Color 8x9¾. Boxer Joe Brown (1926-1997) was World Lightweight Champion from 1956 (won 15-round decision from Bud Smith) to 1962 (lost 15-round decision to Carlos Ortiz). Known as the "Creole Clouter", Brown successfully defended his title eleven times, and, while champion, was named "Ring" magazine's "Fighter of the Year" in 1961. Brown, who retired in 1970 at the age of 44, had a record of 105 wins (47 by KO), 46 loses, 13 draws and one no contest in his 163 bouts from 1943-1970. He was inducted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame in 1996, the year before his death. Slightly soiled. Otherwise, fine condition.
