The Louisiana Representative signs a letter to Barbara Norton, then head of the Public Relations department at the Sheraton-Park Hotel, sending her photos from a recent Mardi Gras celebration.
Typed letter signed: "Joe", in blue ink, 1 page, 6x9. Congress of the United States. House of Representatives. Washington, D.C. March 26, 1965. In full: "Dear Barbara: First, let me apologize for keeping the Mardi Gras pictures longer than I had expected. You should have received them by now and I hope I sold enough of them to make up for my tardiness. Thank you also for keeping me advised of the publications which were sent Mardi Gras pictures and for the copies which you have been kind enough to send me. All good wishes". Joe David Waggoner, Jr. (1918-2007), a navy veteran of World War II and Korea, represented his Louisiana district in the US House from 1961 to 1979. A "boll weevil" Democrat who often voted with the Republicans, Waggonner was close to President Nixon. President Reagan appointed him to his Commission on Social Security Reform in 1981. Normal mailing folds. Fine condition.
