Marks (1890-1973) entered show business in1910 as an actor and variety performer. For over twenty years, he was a star comedian in burlesque, often co-billed with the likes of Bert Lahr. He made occasional screen appearances from 1938, including a role in The Night They Raided Minsky's (1968). Daniel Blum founded Theatre World in 1945, serving as its chief editor until his death in 1964. Aided by Norman McDonald and John A. Willis (his successor as chief editor), Blum also conceived what would become the prestigious Theatre World Awards for promising new actors in the New York stage, Broadway and later off-Broadway as well.
