Catcher Joe Garagiola (1926-2016) reported to the Cardinals in 1946. In mid-June of 1950, Garagiola was hitting .347. During a game against the Dodgers, he trying to avoid a collision, broke stride and fell. He suffered a shoulder separation, caught only 30 games that year, and was traded to the Pirates in 1951. Garagiola played in a career-high 118 games and hit .273 for the last-place Pirates in 1952. His broadcasting career began in 1955 with the Cardinals. In 1961 he began working for NBC's Major League Baseball, where he continued through 1988. In 1965, Garagiola broadcasted Yankee games, then in 1969 moved to hosting NBC's daily Today Show. Later in life, he worked tirelessly as an advocate against tobacco. Fine condition.
