JOE WALTON. Photograph signed: "Joe Walton". B/w, 8x10 overall, image 7¼x8¾ (one
surface). Jets logo, Walton's name and "Head Coach" imprinted at lower margin. Joe Walton
(1935-2021) was head coach of the New York Jets from 1983-1989, compiling a 53-57-1
record. A former two-time All-American tight end while playing for the University of
Pittsburgh, Walton played pro ball for the Washington Redskins (1957-1960) and the New
York Giants (1961-1963). An offensive coordinator for the Pittsburgh Steelers from
1990-1991, he was signed as head coach at Robert Morris University in 1993. Under his
leadership as the only head coach in the school's 11-year-old program, Walton has led the
Colonials to two NCAA Division I-AA Championships (1999, 2000) and five Northeast
Conference Championships (1996-2000), and his teams have made appearances in ECAC
Bowls in 1996 and 1997. The 70-year-old Walton signed a four-year extension (to 2009) to
his contract in 2005, the year the $10 million Joe Walton Stadium was unveiled at Robert
Morris. Minor surface creases and scratches (most not evident head on), some at facial image.
Black marks at upper and lower right edges, file nick at upper right edge. Overall, fine
condition.
