The All-American basketball star sends friendly letter to a fan, signs name in black ink
Autograph note signed: "Joe Reiff" in black ink. 1 page, 5x3, mounted onto irregularly cut 6¼x3¾ paper. In full: "Mr. Melvin Jarvis, I was sure pleased to get your friendly letter and I hope that I shall hear from you again. Sincerely yours". Joe Reiff (1911-1988)was an American basketball player, best known for his time at Northwestern University where he was a three-time All-American center. Reiff led the school to a Western Conference championship his sophomore year (a feat he would repeat two more times) with a league scoring high of 10.0. After graduation, Reiff played for the Amateur Athletic Union, being named part of the All-AAU team, before ultimately becoming a basketball referee in the Western Conference from 1037-1947. He was inducted into the Northwester athletics Hall of Fame in 1984. Toned. Corners rounded. Slightly soiled. Ink notes on paper in unknown hand. Small stains throughout. Creased throughout.
