JOE SAWYER
Still from the 1941 film Sergeant York, signed by Sawyer to a collector. Extremely rare!
Inscribed photograph signed: "To Harry Wilkinson/and his Hollywood Museum/of Memories/Joe Sawyer", in blue ink, Sepia toned 10x8. Canadian actor Joe Sawyer (1906-1982)appeared in over 200 films during his 30 year career, most often cast in tough guy roles due to his sturdy build and sculpted face. Often appearing as a stock actor for Warner Bros., Sawyer appeared in a number of more lighthearted roles, but was better remembered for his appearances in more serious films such as The Grapes of Wrath (1940) and The Petrified Forest (1936). Later in his career, Sawyer was a popular actor for television series, acting in a recurring role as Sergeant Biff O'Hara in The Adventures of Rin Tin Tin (1954-1959) that also carried over into film and radio work. He retired from acting in 1962, with his last role being in How the West Was Won. Pin holes in corners and outer margins. Small tear in top left corner. Corners lightly worn and heavily creased. Ink in signature beaded and faint, but legible. Photograph info printed on verso. Ink notes (unknown hand) on verso. Light surface scratches and striations (not seen head on). Paper remnants on bottom edge. Ink note (unknown hand) on bottom margin. Otherwise, fine condition.
