JOE THEISMANN
Football great Theismann admires his "Dad" and believes the
world needs more "Giving"
Questionnaire signed: "Joe Theismann #7". 7x4 printed
questionnaire. Theismann (born 1949) led Notre Dame's Fighting Irish to a
20-3-2 record and was runner-up in the voting for the Heisman
Trophy in 1970. After his college hall mates hung a banner, "Theismann for
Heisman", Joe changed the pronunciation of his name to conform to this rhyme.
Theismann began his pro career with the Toronto Argonauts of the Canadian
Football League, bringing them to the CFL championship game, the Grey
Cup, before signing with the Washington Redskins in 1974, where he wore
the no. 7 jersey. In 1982, Joe Theismann led the Redskins to victory
in Super Bowl XVII. He went to the Pro Bowl and was voted to the UPI All-NFC
Team. The next year, he led the team to a 14-2 regular season record, followed
by a 51-7 rout of the L.A. Rams in the NFC playoffs. The Redskins lost that
Super Bowl. Theismann was named the AP's NFL MVP, the AP Offensive Player of
the Year, the Pro Bowl Player of the Game and to the All-NFL Team. Theismann
set Redskin team records with 3,602 pass attempts, 2,044 completions, 162
consecutive passes without an interception and 25,506 total passing yards. A
gruesome broken leg resulting from a sack in a Monday night game against the New
York Giants ended Theismann's career in 1985. Theismann subsequently became a
sportscaster with ESPN. Fine condition.
