Sheet of same size conjoined by a printed caption (7x¼) contains a magazine
photo (b/w, 6¼x4¼). Caption reads: "Joey Maxim, holder of the world's
light-heavy-weight crown, goes for higher stakes when he bids for Ezzard
Charles' heavyweight title at Chicago on May 30, 1951. Charles (left) retains
his title, beating Maxim for the third time on points." Maxim, born in 1922,
gained the U.S. title in 1949 and the world ranking the following year,
holding it until 1952. Maxim beat some of the finest fighters of his
era, including Jersey Joe Walcott, Sugar Ray Robinson and future world
heavyweight champion Floyd Patterson. He was inducted into the Boxing Hall of
Fame in 1994. Mounting adhesive shows slightly at edges of card. Conjoined
sheet connected only by printed caption at top. Otherwise, fine
condition.
