JOHN A. BLATNIK
Card signed as a Member of Congress
Signature: "John A. Blatnik/M.C./8th Dist. Minn.", 3½x2. John Adam Blatnik (1911-1991) left the Minnesota Senate for military service in World War II. For a year, he headed the O.S.S. liaison with Tito's Yugoslav partisans. A member of Minnesota's Democratic-Farmer-Labor Party, he served in the US House of Representatives from 1947 to 1974. Blatnik was an aggressive supporter of the St Lawrence Seaway, completed in 1959, and a key sponsor of the Clean Water Act of 1972. Surprisingly for a Minnesota Democrat, he voted against the Civil Rights Act of 1964. Fine condition.
