Photograph signed: "With my best wishes -/John A. Gronouski". B/w, 8x10 overall, image 7x8½ (one surface). John Austin Gronouski (1919-1996) was Ambassador to Poland from 1965-1969. He had previously served as U.S. Postmaster General under Presidents John F. Kennedy and Lyndon B. Johnson (1963-1965), becoming the first Polish-American Cabinet member. In 1969, Johnson, who had appointed Gronouski as Ambassador, asked him to be the founding dean of the LBJ School, where Gronouski served until his retirement in 1974. Gronouski, a veteran of WWII, had joined the Wisconsin Department of Taxation in 1959, becoming Wisconsin State Commissioner of Taxation in 1960. Slightly creased at blank margins and corners. Minor surface creases (most not evident head on), none at facial image. Overall, fine condition.
