Written on National Hockey League letterhead. New York City, New York. December 16, 1991. Addressed to Mr. John Buchanan of North York, Ontario, Canada. In full: "Thank you for your letter and interest in the National Hockey League. As you requested I have signed a few pictures to be used in your art class. In this being the 75th Anniversary of the National Hockey League, I have also enclosed some Anniversary patches [not included] for your class. Kind regards. Very truly yours". John A. Ziegler, Jr. (b. 1934) was the fourth president of the National Hockey League, having previously served as owner of the Detroit Red Wings and chairman of the NHL Board of Governors. As President, Ziegler was responsible for the mandate of wearing public helmets, as well as for the overall merger between the National Hockey League and the World Hockey Association. He was awarded the Lester Patrick Trophy in 1984 for his contributions to hockey, and was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1987. Corners gently worn. Light surface creases.
