Autograph Note signed: "John Abernethy", 1 page, 7¼x4. No place, no date. In full: "I am obliged to you for the Information you have communicated relative to the unfortunate and distressing case of Mrs. L. - & I remain Sir very sincerely yours". British physician John Abernethy (1764-1831) became Assistant Surgeon at St. Bartholomew's Hospital in 1787, and he was the founder of St. Bartholomew's Hospital Medical School, where he established a renowned museum of pathological anatomy. In 1813, Abernethy became Surgeon at Christ's Hospital, a position he held until 1828. A skilled surgeon who was named Surgeon to St. Bartholomew's Hospital in 1815, he was also a popular lecturer, publishing lectures on anatomy, surgery and pathology. Toned and creased. Edges frayed. Notch at center right edge. Bottom left and top right corners torn. Otherwise, fine condition.
