In full: "Mr Abernethy presents his compliments to Mrs Clark, acquainting her that he is just returned from the Country, & is ready to see the person whom she desires him to do." British physician John Abernethy (1764-1831) became Assistant Surgeon at St. Bartholomew's Hospital in 1787, and he was the founder of St. Bartholomew's Hospital Medical School, where he established a renowned museum of pathological anatomy. In 1813, Abernethy became Surgeon at Christ's Hospital, a position he held until 1828. A skilled surgeon who was named Surgeon to St. Bartholomew's Hospital in 1815, he was also a popular lecturer, publishing lectures on anatomy, surgery and pathology. Slightly creased with fold, not at signature. Lightly soiled at blank margins. Irregular left edge. Overall, fine condition.
