JOHN AGAR and ORRIN TUCKER
John Agar and Orrin Tucker sign an album leaf.
Signatures: "John Agar" and, on verso, "Orrin Tucker", 6x4½ album leaf. Magazine photos, b/w, 1x1, of Agar and b/w, 1¾ x2½, of Tucker affixed at lower right corners. Ink notes (unknown hand) at lower margins: "June 27, 1952 Cerebral Palsy Show" on Agar's side and "June 28, 1952 Cerebral Palsy Show" on Tucker's side. An apparently rising star in such war and Western films as She Wore a Yellow Ribbon (1949), handsome actor JOHN AGAR (1921-2002) was largely consigned to low budget science fiction movies after his divorce from Shirley Temple in 1949 (the 27-year-old actor had married 17-year-old Temple in 1945 after a whirlwind courtship). He later appeared in three Westerns with friend John Wayne (1969-1971) and was often sought for film and TV character roles. ORRIN TUCKER (born in 1911), a popular bandleader of the 1940s, had his biggest hit with "Oh, Johnny, Oh, Johnny", sung by vocalist "Wee" Bonnie Baker (Tucker and his band would perform the song for FDR at the White House). Tucker, who formed Orrin Tucker and his Orchestra in 1939, also appeared in the feature film, Tender is the Night (1962) and on the 1975 made-for-television movie, Queen of the Stardust Ballroom. Lightly creased. Light show through of ink on both sides (not at signatures). Pinhead-size stain at upper right blank corner of front. 2 file nicks at blank left edge. Overall, fine condition.
