Document signed: "John Alonzo" in pencil as player, 1 page, 8½x6. Also signed "H. Stewart". in red pencil as casting director. No place, 1958 February 14. One-day contract for Employment of Day Player, filled out in pencil by Alonzo. Alonzo is paid $100 to play the part of "soldier at car" in the production The Gun Runner, by Seven Arts Productions, Inc. Alonzo gives his Hollywood address and claims four exemptions. Although he appeared on screen in a few films, including The Magnificent Seven (1960), and hosted local children's TV programs in Dallas and Los Angeles, JOHN ALONZO (1934-2001) is best remembered as an award-winning cinematographer.He was co-recipient of an Emmy for his work on Fail-Safe (2000), and earned two more Emmy nominations and an Oscar nomination (for Chinatown, 1974). Among other noteworthy films featuring Alonzo as director of photography were Sounder, Close Encounters of the Third Kind, Norma Rae and Steel Magnolias. HERB STEWART was production manager as well as casting director on this film, which appeared in 1958 as The Gun Runner. Audie Murphy and Eddie Albert were the top-billed stars of this film, which was based on Ernest Hemingway's novel, To Have and Have Not. It was one of three films based on this book.
