JOHN BALL, JR.
Signed letter from the author of In the Heat of the
Night
Typed letter signed: "John Ball" 1 page, 5¾x9¼. Encino
California, December 20, 1973. To William Stanhope. In full:
"I greatly regret that my frequent absence from my home has delayed my
answer to your two recent letters to me. If you would care to send me your copy
of 'Edwards' I will be glad to inscribe it for you. Regarding a photograph, at
the present time I have nothing suitable on hand to send you. I am not
especially camera conscious and usually stay behind the lens rather than in
front of it. With very best wishes for a most happy, if somewhat cool, holiday
season. Sincerely,". John Dudley Ball, Jr (1911-1988) was a US
commercial pilot and writer, most famous for his novel In the Heat of the
Night (1965). Other notable works include Operation Springboard (1958)
and The First Team (1971). His works range from murder dramas to
science fiction. Normal mailing folds. Toned. Otherwise, fine
condition.
