JOHN BOLES Black and white 8x10¼ bust photo of actor John Boles in a suit, striped tie and mustache Inscribed photograph signed "To Albert/Best regards/from/John Boles/1947". Typed and black ink notations on verso in unknown hand. B/w, 8x10¼ overall, 7¼x9½ image, one surface. According to notations on verso, this was signed at the Hotel John Marshall in Richmond, Virginia on Feb. 12, 1947. JohnBoles (1895-1969, born in Greenville, Texas), a stage actor and singer before making his film debut in 1924, appeared in a number of feature films for Fox and as a freelancer, including Rio Rita (1929), The Desert Song (1929), Frankenstein (1931), Bottoms Up (1934), and three Shirley Temple films. Before his acting career took off, Boles studied to become a physician and later served in the United States Army Intelligence Service during WWI for two years. Lightly toned, creased and bowed. Lightly stained at bottom right corner. Otherwise, fine condition.
