JOHN CAMERON SWAYZE

The famous American journalist signs this typed letter in which he sends a friend a menu prepared by Mrs. Swayze and hoping she found it suitable, in blue ink

Typed Letter Signed:"John Cameron Swayze" in blue ink. 5½x8½. Place: New York. Date: June 29, 1953. One page. In full: "Dear Mrs. Dennis, I am glad to send the enclosed menu which Mrs. Swayze prepared. I hope that you find it suitable. Best wishes. Sincerely, John Cameron Swayze". Swayze (1906-1995, born in Wichita, Kansas) was an American journalist. Swayze, whose acting hopes were dashed upon 1929's great stock market crash, began his journalism career as a newspaper and radio reporter and provided voice-overs in 1948 for Camel Newsreel Theatre, a TV show that broadcast Movietone News newsreels. He hosted the first-ever commercial broadcast of the Republican National Convention in 1948 for NBC, then graduated to hosting the Camel News Caravan, NBC's first newscast, in 1949. But modern audiences probably know him better as the spokesman for Timex's watch commercials; with the now-famous catch-phrase "It takes a licking and keeps on ticking". Lightly creased and toned. Otherwise, fine condition.
