lined index card. American Catholic prelate John Cardinal Dearden (1907-1988)
was Bishop of Pittsburgh (1950-1958) and Archbishop of Detroit
(1958-1980). He was made a cardinal in 1969. At the Second Vatican
Council (1962-1965), he emerged as a liberal voice, supporting more
participation by the laity in church affairs and reforms of the liturgy. He
was the first President of the National Council of Catholic Bishops
(1966-1971). Pencil note (unknown hand) on verso. Otherwise, fine
condition.
