JOHN CARPENTER. Photograph signed: "My/Best,/John/Carpenter". B/w, 8x10 overall, image 6¼x8¼ (one surface). ©1988, Universal City Studios Inc. Captioned at lower margin: "Director JOHN CARPENTER/RODDY PIPER, KEITH DAVID and MEG FOSTER star in JOHN CARPENTER'S 'THEY LIVE.' CARPENTER directed from a screenplay by FRANK ARMITAGE. The score for the UNIVERSAL release is by CARPENTER and ALAN HOWARTH. Producer, LARRY FRANCO; Associate Producer, SANDY KING; Executive Producers, SHEP GORDON and ANDRE BLAY." Frank Armitage was the pen name used by Carpenter on the screenplay for this film, which was released in 1988. Carpenter also directed and wrote the score. In 1988, he also wrote the theme for Halloween 4: The Return of Michael Myers. Multitalented director, producer, actor, composer and writer John Howard Carpenter (born in 1948) began making short films in 1962, and he won the Academy Award for Best Live-Action Short Subject just eight years later (The Resurrection of Broncho Billy, 1970). Carpenter began directing features in 1962, with Revenge of the Colossal Beasts, setting the tone for the horror and suspense movies that would follow, including Halloween (1978), The Fog (1980), The Thing (1982), They Live, Escape from L.A. (1996) and Vampires (1998). Carpenter, who formed a band, The Coupe de Villes, in the mid-1970s, has also composed the scores for a number of films. Some of his music, such as "Halloween Theme", has been heard in other films and on TV shows. An occasional actor who appears in his own films under the name of Rip Haight, Carpenter has been seen in features including The Fog (1980) and Village of the Damned (1995) as well as his made-for-TV movie, Body Bags (1993). Married to actress Adrienne Barbeau from 1979-1984, Carpenter has been married to his second wife, script supervisor and sometimes his co-producer, Sandy King, since 1990. Slightly creased at blank margins and corners, diagonal crease at caption. Light black mark at lower right margin. Fine condition.
