JOHN CARRADINE
John Carradine signs an index card in blue ink.
Signature: "John Carradine", 5x3 index card. Magazine photograph, b/w, 1x1, affixed at lower right margin. Typed caption at upper margin: "JOHN CARRADINE (1906- ) Gaunt American Shakespearean actor who ultimately dissipated his talent in conventional horror roles." Typed caption at lower margin: "David and Keith Carradine are his sons." Ink note (unknown hand) on verso states that this autograph was obtained at Club 21 on June 7, 1952. In 1952, Carradine lent his voice talents to the animated TV series, Thunderbolt the Wondercolt, and he also appeared on an episode of the TV series, Lights Out. John Carradine (1906-1988) was happiest performing on stage, yet he made dozens of movies and many TV appearances. He had prominent roles, though not the lead, in such successful films as Captains Courageous (1937), Stagecoach (1939) and The Grapes of Wrath (1940). Though often cast as a villain, Carradine was versatile enough to play a kindly Abe Lincoln (Of Human Hearts, 1938). Many of his performances late in his career were in low budget horror flicks. Carradine is the father of actors David, Keith, Robert and Bruce Carradine. Slightly creased. Light stain at blank right margin on verso, which is lightly soiled (no show through). Fine condition.
