JOHN CATERHe signed this handwritten letter discussing his acting career Autograph Letter Signed: "John Cater" 1 page, 8x10. London, 1985 February 15. To the American Museum of Historical Documents, Las Vegas, Nevada. In full: "With hindsight, I can say the most important role to have come my way in recent years is Kit Carson in Saroyan's 'The Time of Your Life'; the play formed part of the Royal Shakespeare Company's Seasons of 1983-1984. It has certainly been my most successful role in terms of critical acclaim, and, immodestly, I recall a fine review in 'The New York Times.' It is perhaps ironical for a British actor to rejoice in the enigmatic, crafty old Wild West codger created by Saroyan ( '… I don't suppose you ever fell in love with a midget weight thirty-nine pounds?') [Ellipses in original] but there it is! Had I performed in the play on your side of the Atlantic I might have found a career in Westerns: a dream held by many of my colleagues on this side. I shall always be indebted to your Saroyan for the Part of a Lifetime. Yours sincerely". A familiar face on British TV adventure series of the 1960s (Dr. Who. The Avengers), Cater has played supporting roles in many films since, often horror movies. Recent appearances have included Goodnight Mister Tom (1998) and Fogbound (2002). He has made many stage appearances with the Royal Shakespeare Company. Fine condition.
