Sepia, 3½x5½. English actor and producer John Clements
(1910-1988) appeared in over 200 plays on London stages,
beginning in 1930 and founded the Intimate Theatre in 1935. His starring film
roles included The Four Feathers (1939) and several films of World
War II. He starred opposite Kay Hammond in a London revival of Coward's
Private Lives (1945), and married her the following year. The often
appeared together, co-starring in Clements' own play, The Happy Marriage
(1952). He was artistic director of the Chichester Film Festival (1966-1973). He
made a cameo appearance Advocate General in Gandhi (1982). Clements was
honored as a CBE in 1956 and knighted in 1968. Slightly worn. Otherwise,
fine condition.
