Stock Certificate signed: "J. D. Rockefeller" as President, "H M Flagler" as Secretary and "JA Bostwick" as Treasurer of the Standard Oil Trust, 1 page, 11½x7½ with 4¼x7½ receipt portion attached at left, New York, New York, Jan. 22, 1884. The Standard Oil Trust, created in January 1882, placed all stocks and properties of over a dozen oil companies (including Rockefeller's Standard Oil Company of Ohio) into the control of nine trustees of which Rockefeller owned over a third of the combined holdings. The trust was dissolved by court decree in 1892. The patriarch of the Rockefeller family had organized Standard Oil Co. in 1870. Flagler organized the Florida East Coast Railway in 1886, extended the line to Miami and built great hotels at shore resorts (1892-1896). Lightly toned, stained and rippled. Normal stock certificate embossings, which touch signature, and stamps. Pinholes and creases in upper right corner of certificate. Pinholes in lower left corner of receipt. Certificate has been folded three times vertically and unfolded. Adhesive residue on right side of receipt. Pinholes and small tears from binding on left side of receipt. Otherwise in fine condition.
