JOHN D. VANDERHOOF. TLS: "John D. Vanderhoof" as Governor of Colorado, 1p, 7¼x10½. Denver, Colorado, 1974 July 10. On letterhead of State of Colorado, Executive Chamber to Mr. Danny Franklin, Phoenix, Arizona. In full: "I regret the tardiness of this response to your letter; unfortunately, it appears as though it was delayed somewhere between Senator Dominick's office and my desk. The surviving former Colorado governors are John A. Love, Steve McNichols, Walter Johnson and Dan Thornton. I do not have the home addresses of these individuals. Best wishes from the State of Colorado. Sincerely". John David Vanderhoof (born in 1922) was the Republican Governor of Colorado from 1973-1975. He had previously served as the first Lieutenant Governor of Colorado (1971-1973) under a constitutional provision for the joint election of the Governor and Lieutenant Governor of the state. Vanderhoof, a banker and decorated veteran of WWII (two Purple Hearts, the Distinguished Flying Cross, three Air Medals), had begun his political career in the Colorado State House of Representatives (1950-1970), serving as Speaker of the House from 1963-1964 and 1967-1970. Lightly creased with folds, lower horizontal fold at signature. Fine condition.
