letterhead of State of Colorado, Executive Chamber to Mr. Danny Franklin,
Phoenix, Arizona. In full: "I regret the tardiness of this response to
your letter; unfortunately, it appears as though it was delayed somewhere
between Senator Dominick's office and my desk. The surviving former Colorado
governors are John A. Love, Steve McNichols, Walter Johnson and Dan
Thornton. I do not have the home addresses of these individuals. Best wishes
from the State of Colorado. Sincerely". John David Vanderhoof (born in 1922)
was the Republican Governor of Colorado from 1973-1975. He had previously
served as the first Lieutenant Governor of Colorado (1971-1973) under a
constitutional provision for the joint election of the Governor and Lieutenant
Governor of the state. Vanderhoof, a banker and decorated veteran of WWII
(two Purple Hearts, the Distinguished Flying Cross, three Air
Medals), had begun his political career in the Colorado State House of
Representatives (1950-1970), serving as Speaker of the House from
1963-1964 and 1967-1970. Lightly creased with folds, lower horizontal fold at
signature. Fine condition.
