"CELEBRITY CLAMBAKE" GOLF TOURNAMENT: JOHN DALY, ROD GILBERT, JIM TAYLOR, ELKE SOMMER, PATRICK DUFFY, CHARLIE PRIDE, JOSH DUHMAL and OTHERS
Twenty-two golfers sign a flag from the "Celebrity Clambake" Golf Tournament.
Golf Flag signed: "Rod/Gilbert/#1", "Love/Elke Sommer/2001", "To Cliff/Jim Taylor", "John Daly", "Bill/Joe/Dupree/87", "Buzz/Peterson", "Daryl/Lamonica", "Jim Hart", "Patrick Duffy", "Matthew/Lawrence", "Mudcat/Grant", "Charlie Pride", "Josh/Duhamel", "Dennis Haysbert", "Stephen/Root", "Fred/the/Hammer [Williamson]", "Kelly/Tripucka/#7" "Rick Hurst" and four unknown signers. White nylon golf flag, 21¾x14. Imprinted in red and black: "The Crosby 15th Anniversary at Bermuda Run". Probably signed at the last Bing Crosby "Celebrity Clambake" tournament, which took place at Bermuda Run, North Carolina in June 2001. Bing Crosby, the first celebrity to lend his name to a golf tournament, developed the format of the celebrity pro-am. His first "clambake" celebrity tournaments were held in Rancho Santa Fe, California (beginning in 1958) before moving to Pebble Beach, and they raised millions of dollars for charities. After Crosby's death, his widow set up charity "clambake" tournaments at the Bermuda Run Country Club in Winston-Salem, North Carolina in 1986. In 2000, the corporate sponsor, Sara Lee, announced that it could no longer afford to support the tournaments, leading to them being discontinued the following year. Ink slightly smudged at some signatures, stray ink marks at blank areas. Folds, some at signatures. Fine condition.
