for enjoying the first volume of his autobiography and wished him a happy new
year.
Typed letter signed "JohnDrinkwater". 1 page, 8x5, on stationery
imprinted with "9 The Grove/Highgate Village/London, N.6". January 1, 1932.
Addressed to "Harry and Alice". In full: "My dear Harry and Alice,
Just a line to thank you for your most welcome cable and to say how glad I am
that you enjoyed 'Inheritance'. I wish you could call in upon this happy family
and see our thriving little Penelope Ann. These are difficult times for the
world, but I suppose we shall come through to quietness again. In the meantime,
all good wishes from us all for the new year. I am sending you a little token
herewith. Yours,". Inheritance was Drinkwater's Drinkwater
(1882-1937, born in Leytonstone, Essex, England) was a British poet and
playwright. A prolific writer, he published 24 volumes of poetry and 19 plays,
including Abraham Lincoln (1918) and Bird in Hand (1928) as well
as numerous biographies, two volumes of autobiography and critical works.
Lightly toned. Discolored on left and right edge. Otherwise in fine
condition.
