Photograph of the catcher in uniform, signed in blue felt tip
Photograph signed: "John Stearns", in blue felt tip, Color 8x10. John "Dude" Stearns (b.1951) played for the New York Mets between 1975 and 1984. A versatile catcher out of University of Colorado, Stearns was a 1st round, 2nd overall pick of the 1973 amateur drafts. His dynamism in sports (also drafted in the NFL) made him a top contender on the field, as he was savvy at first base and third base. After two seasons with Mets he was elected to his first of 4 All-Star Games in 1977 (1979, 1980, 1982). His latter career was plagued with injuries, and by 1984, after reaching 10 years in the Majors, he retired. He is a lifetime .260 hitter with 46 homeruns and 312 RBIs. He spent years coaching in the MLB before retiring to become a scout for the Mariners in 2014. Fine condition.
