JOHN "DUKE" WATHAN
His signed 1983 Fleer baseball card shown as catcher for the
Royals.
Sports card signed: "John/Wathan", in black felt tip, 2½x3½.
John Wathan (b.1949) played on the Kansas City Royals for his
entire MLB career from 1976 and 1985. A catcher out of the University of San
Diego, Wathan was a 1st round, 4th overall pick of the 1971 amateur drafts.
In his career he took home the American League Pennant in 1980 and 1985 with
Royals. Also in 1985, the Royals won the World Series. He is a
lifetime .262 hitter with 21 home runs and 261 RBIs. Nicknamed "Duke" for his
perfect impersonations of John Wayne, Wathan later became a manager for the
Royals (1987-1991) and the California Angels (1992). Fine condition.
