JOHN WAYNE
Shown in uniform as Major Daniel Kirby in the 1951 film Flying Leathernecks
Photograph inscribed and signed: "Richard-/Time flies/John Wayne/1976". B/w, 8x10. RKO Radio Pictures photograph copyright 1951, 25 years before Wayne signed it, hence "Time flies". In 1951, Wayne starred in RKO's Flying Leathernecks, a tribute to the Marine Flying Corps of WWII. John Wayne (1907-1979), nominated for the 1949 Academy Award for Best Actor for Sands of Iwo Jima, won the Oscar in 1969 for True Grit. He was the embodiment of the American hero in over 200 films, fighting (on screen) for his country in many of them. Wayne had inscribed another photograph for the collector. At the lower left (not evident head on), the impression: "Richard-/My best/John Wayne/1976" can be seen. Creased (not evident head on). Lightly soiled at edges. Overall, fine condition.
