JOHN WAYNE
John Wayne signs a black and white publicity photograph while in Berlin on January 27, 1956.
Photograph signed: "Good Luck/John Wayne/Berlin/Jan 27 1956". B/w, 6x7½. In 1956, Wayne would be seen on the big screen in two feature films, The Conqueror and The Searchers. All-American action hero John Wayne (1907-1979), born Marion Michael Morrison, appeared in over 250 films, primarily in war movies or Westerns. Although he had appeared in 80 low-budget films, Wayne did not become a star until 1939, when he appeared as the Ringo Kid in John Ford's Stagecoach. Near the end of his 40-year career, Wayne was honored with his only Best Actor Academy Award for his portrayal of hard-drinking, one-eyed Marshal Rooster Cogburn in 1969's True Grit. Minor surface creases, striations and smudges (most not evident head on), light smudges at forehead and hair. Mounting remnants on verso (minor show through at upper corners). Overall, fine and handsome.
