JOHN WAYNE
Wayne's personal, Western-themed tie holder, previously owned by his
makeup man.
Ephemera unsigned. Wooden tie holder (4½x6½), with a carved golden
image of a man on a bucking horse, from which extend six silver metallic
holders. Accompanied by letter of authenticity from collector Claire Gaynor,
attesting that he obtained this item personally from Gordon Bau, famous
Hollywood makeup artist who worked with Wayne on such films as Operation
Pacific (1951) and Rio Bravo (1959). All-American
action hero John Wayne appeared in over 250 films, primarily in war movies and
Westerns. Although Wayne had already appeared in nearly 80 films, it was
John Ford's Stagecoach (1939) which made him into a major star. Near the
end of his forty-year career, Wayne was honored with his first Best Actor
Academy Award for his portrayal of hard-drinking, one-eyed Marshal
Rooster Cogburn in 1969's True Grit. Fine
condition.
