It's a program from the 1st Annual AFI Lifetime Achievement Award, given to Ford and signed by him and by three actors - Wayne (Stagecoach, The Quiet Man), Jimmy Stewart (The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance) and Maureen O'Hara (How Green Was My Valley, The Quiet Man) - who frequently appeared in his movies. Comes with two invitations to the 1973 ceremony. Inscribed program signed "To Anne/Jack Ford", "Jimmy Stewart", "Good Luck/John Wayne" and "Maureen OHara", all in blue ink, on page 16. B/w, 28 pages including covers, 10¾x11, bound with 2 staples. Program for the presentation of the 1st Annual American Film Institute (AFI) Award on March 31, 1973. Lightly toned, soiled and creased. Ink transference on verso of signature page. Cover is lightly scratched and has worn corners and spine and light dents and chipping at top, right and bottom edges. Otherwise in fine condition. Accompanied by: 1) Unsigned invitation. Black and red ink notations on verso. 6x4¼ card. Invitation to AFI's First Annual Award for Life Achievement in Motion Pictures and Television at the International Ballroom at the Beverly Hilton Hotel on Saturday, March 31, 1973. According to the notations on verso, this invitation was for actor Army Archerd. Lightly soiled and bowed. Rust stains from paper clip on verso. Otherwise in fine condition. 2) Unsigned invitation. Black ink notations on verso. 6x4¼ card. Invitation to AFI's First Annual Award for Life Achievement in Motion Pictures and Television at the International Ballroom at the Beverly Hilton Hotel on Saturday, March 31, 1973. According to the notations on verso, this invitation was for "Mrs. Army Archerd", or Selma Archerd. Lightly soiled and bowed. Rust stains from paper clip on verso. Otherwise in fine condition. Ford was awarded the AFI's Lifetime Achievement Award, which the organization initiated on Feb. 26, 1973. According to this program, AFI voted unanimously to award their first Lifetime Achievement Award to Ford. Along with Ford, this program is signed by three actors that frequently appeared in his movies: John Wayne, Maureen O'Hara and Jimmy Stewart. Wayne, of course, appeared in numerous Ford movies, including Stagecoach (1939) and the St. Patrick's Day staple The Quiet Man (1952), which earned Ford Oscars for Best Director. O'Hara appeared in a total of five Ford movies, including How Green was My Valley (1941), which earned Ford Best Director honors, and co-starring with Wayne in The Quiet Man (1952). Stewart appeared in four Ford movies, including Two Rode Together (1961) and Cheyenne Autumn (1964) and with Wayne in The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance (1962) and How The West Was Won (1962).
