John Wayne sends a typed letter of thanks for receiving the Francis X. Bushman Award even though the thanks are delayed due to location shooting.
Typed Letter Signed: "John Wayne", 1p, 7¼x10½. Hollywood, Calif., 1969 December 9. To Mrs. Francis X. Bushman, Pacific Palisades, Calif. In full: "As you know, I have been on location almost continuously for the past three years; hence the delay in acknowledging the Francis X. Bushman Award. I can't tell you how appreciative I am to receive this award from the legacy of a man who has been so prominent and who has done so much for our country." Silent screen superstar FRANCIS X. BUSHMAN was once known as "the handsomest man in the world". In the 1910s, he rushed from one movie set to another, playing romantic leads in scores of films and becoming immensely popular with female viewers. He is best remembered for the villainous role of Messala in the silent Ben-Hur opposite Ramon Novarro. Bushman was married to IVY MILICENT RICHARDSON from 1956 until his death in 1966. While JOHN WAYNE never appeared in a film with Bushman, he made three films with Francis X. Bushman, Jr. Slightly creased. Folds, light horizontal fold touches the "J" in John and lower loop of the "y" in Wayne. Fine condition.
