Check signed: "John Emery", in black felt tip, 7x3. August 12,
1946. Check no. 1817 drawn on the account of John Emery at California Bank in
Beverly Hills, California. Payable for $5.00 cash (not endorsed on verso). American stage,
film, radio and television actor John Emery (1905-1964) had a career for
over twenty years. Emery, a New York City native, began his career on Broadway
in the drama John Brown (1934) and would go on to appear in over
twenty more shows including Romeo and Juliet (1934), Save Me
the Waltz (1938) and Anastasia (1954). He had a number of
small roles in Hollywood films such asThe Road Back (1937),
Spellbound (1945) and Rocketship X-M (1950), as well
as in television series like I Love Lucy (1951) and Have Gun
Will Travel(1959), and furthermore starred in the 1946 radio program
Philo Vance. Because of their resemblance, Emery was often rumored
to be the illegitimate child of legendary actor John Barrymore. Corners slightly
