Autograph letter signed "John Fine". 1 page, 8x10. Ogdensburgh, St. Lawrence County, New York, Feb. 5, 1823. Addressed to William Lawrence, Esq. In full: "Dear Sir Your Letter of the 22 Jany was received by the last mail. I have ecsamined [sic] the several Books of Deeds in the Clerk's Office & do not find any Conveyance of the Tract you have purchased. I believe there is no in cumbrance [sic] of any kind upon record here. Your requests are attended to with much pleasure. Very Respectfully Your Obed Servt". Fine (1794-1867) was a Democratic U. S. Representative from New York's 14th Congressional District (1839-1841). He was also a member of the New York state senate (1848-1849), a judge for the St. Lawrence County court of common pleas (1824-1839 and 1843-1847) and Treasurer of St. Lawrence County (1821-1833). Lightly toned and creased. Folded thrice vertically and five times horizontally. Otherwise in fine condition.
