Typed Letter signed: "John", 1 page, 8¼x11¾. No place, 1971 May 17. On letterhead promoting the Columbia Pictures John Frankenheimer-Edward Lewis production, The Horsemen. To Edward Lewis, Hollywood, California, in full: "Enclosed find copy of letter to Mercador & Co, which is self-explanatory. [Item not included.] I think it pretty well covers the points we discussed. I would be most grateful if you could send me all the information on the charter flights, that you discussed with me, in particular the student charters, as I would like to bring my daughter over, perhaps at the end of the summer. I have a meeting with Marion Jordan tonight and I'll let you know the result. Best". Director John Frankenheimer (1930-2002) started making films in the Air Force during the Korean War. In the 1950s, he directed 140 TV episodes, including many TV playhouse presentations. His most critically acclaimed films for the big screen came in the 1960s and 1970s, including The Birdman of Alcatraz, The Manchurian Candidate, Seven Days in May and The Train. By his own admission, his productivity diminished after the relative failure of Black Sunday (1979), but he made a strong comeback in made for TV movies in the nineties, including the Turner Network features Andersonville and George Wallace. Producer Edward Lewis collaborated with John Frankheimer on many films. The Horsemen, set in Afghanistan before it was wracked by wars, starred Jack Palance and Omar Sharif. Frankenheimer had two daughters, Elise and Kristi, both from his second marriage (to Carolyn Miller, 1954-1961). He liked to live and work in France. File holes at upper margin. Fold creases through "J" of John. Lighlty creased and soiled at blank margins. Otherwise, fine condition.
