Signature: "J.G. Carlisle/Ky.", 3¾x1¾ card affixed to 4½x2¾ Executive Mansion card. Washington, D.C., no date, but likely 1893-1897 while Cleveland's Secretary of the Treasury. John G. Carlisle (1834-1910) represented Kentucky in the House of Representatives as a Democrat from 1877-1890, serving as Speaker of the House from 1883-1889. He was U.S. Senator from 1890 to 1893, when he was appointed Secretary of the Treasury by President Cleveland. Carlisle was noted for his sound money policy and tariff reform and served during Cleveland's entire second term. Both cards are lightly stained. Otherwise, fine condition.
