John Glenn sends a letter of thanks for the play tickets and the
ability to get an extra one.
Autograph Letter Signed: "John" as U.S. Senator, 1p,
6x4. Embossed Senate card. No place, no date. To Pat (Senator Daniel
P. Moynihan). In full: "Many thanks for 'Guys and Dolls', and in
particular for achieving the impossible, an extra ticket for our daughter
Lyn. We all really enjoyed your hospitality, Pat -". On February 20,
1962, John H. Glenn, Jr. became the first American to orbit the Earth aboard
Friendship 7. Over 36 years later, 77-year-old Senator Glenn was
aboard the Space Shuttle Discovery (STS-95), October 29 to November 7,
1998, a nine-day mission. Glenn was Senator from Ohio (1975-1999) and sought
the Democratic presidential nomination in 1984. Guys and Dolls was on
Broadway twice during the period Glenn and Moynihan were Senate colleagues:
1976-1977 and 1992-1995. Glenn's daughter Lyn was born in 1947. DIRECTLY
FROM THE SALE OF THE ESTATE OF DANIEL PATRICK MOYNIHAN (1927-2003) who
represented New York in the U.S. Senate from 1977-2001. Slightly soiled. Estate
inventory number and file notes (unknown hand) at top. Overall, fine
condition.
