Price: $300.00
JOHN GLENN
The astronaut and U.S. senator is shown from the chest up wearing a suit and tie.
Inscribed Photograph signed: "To James Weimer/John Glenn", Color 8x10. On February 20,
1962, John Glenn (1921-2016) became the first American to orbit the Earth (three orbits
in four hours and 55 minutes) aboard Friendship 7). On October 29, 1998, 36 years later,
U.S. Senator John H. Glenn, Jr. of Ohio returned to space aboard the Space Shuttle
Discovery, spending nine days and orbiting the Earth 134 times. The 77-year-old's presence
on the mission helped scientists study the effects of space on the aging process. His return to
space is commemorated on a 33-cent U.S. stamp issued in 2000. Glenn had been a combat
pilot in Korea, downing three MIGs and serving for a time as the wingman of baseball great
Ted Williams. He represented Ohio in the US Senate for 24 years (1975-1999), and
sought the Democratic Presidential nomination in 1984. Fine condition.
