I hope this will not cause too many problems with your schedule. Thank you again for your time and energy. We had looked forward to your testimony." The nation was celebrating the bicentennial of the U.S. Constitution in 1987. John Glenn, U.S. Senator from Ohio (1975-1999), was the first American to orbit the Earth (1962) and, at 77, the oldest astronaut in space (1998).
