Autograph letter signed: "John Granger" in brown felt tip. 1 page, 7¼x10½. Written on personal letterhead. January 6, 1972. New York City, New York. In full: "Dear Mr. Willis: I am enclosing a current portrait [not included] as you requested. If you have occasion to write of my most recent exploit - "The Screens" - you will discover that no, good black and white photos were taken, only color. I am not sure they can be of any use for your purpose. Cordially". Actor John Granger (1924-1993) made his Broadway debut in the Shakespearean tragedy Othello (1945) and went on to perform in the Broadway productions of The Little Hut (1953) and Cheri (1959). Granger also appeared on television in the movies Reign of Terror (1952) and Socrates' Wife (1953) as well as the series The Plymouth Playhouse (1953); furthermore, Granger had roles in the big screen movies Advise & Consent (1962) and Tattoo (1981). John A. Willis (1916-2010), active in Theatre World from the beginning, became its chief editor in 1965, holding that position until 2008. Willis is regarded as one of the foremost theatre and film historians of the 20th century. While producing (and presenting) the annual Theatre World Awards, Willis also served on the nominating committee for the Tony Awards. Theatre World, which received its own Tonyfor Excellence in Theatre in 2001, continues under chief editor Ben Hodges. Toned. Light surface creases. Ink smeared in left margin.
