JOHN GREENLEAF WHITTIER
The American abolitionist and poet signs on this 3½x2 card
Signature: "John G Whittier". 3½x2 card with scalloped upper left and lower right corners. A staunch abolitionist, Quaker poet Whittier (1807-1892, born in Haverhill, Massachusetts) also wrote pastoral poems, including his masterpiece Snow-Bound (1866), that reflected rugged New England life. Probably best remembered today for his patriotic poem Barbara Frietchie, he was once honored with holidays in some New England states. Whittier moved to Amesbury, Massachusetts in 1836. Lightly toned and foxed. Creased in lower right corner. Otherwise, fine condition.
